The Mother Road

Route 66 map

The ‘mother road’ they call it. It’s the ‘Route 66 ‘, which goes from Chicago to Los Angeles crossing several states: Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.
Since its opening in 1926 until its was officially removed from the United States Highway System on 1985, this famous road has suffered many changes that have affected the initial layout and its total length (2448 miles, 4000km).  Gradually, modern interstate highways have displaced to this legendary road, now called “Historic Route 66″.
Route 66 passes through some of the most spectacular landscapes in the United States: the golden beaches of Los Angeles, Grand Canyon, Indian reserves in the desert, the streets of ST. Louis, typical roadside diner …

The combination of cold ocean water and the heat of the California peninsula creates a characteristic fog that can cover the city throughout the day. A quotation incorrectlyattributed to Mark Twain’s ”The coldest winter I spent was a summer in San Francisco”.  Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island are 2 of the icons of San Francisco.

In search of America

Visiting a country is not simply to learn the geography and museums, it also involves knowing its people and its beat. That way, our memories will not be just a photo album.

we do not take a trip; a trip takes us.” John Steinbeck.
